featured seller friday!

Happy Friday everyone!

This weeks feature seller is Georgia from Viola Vintage. Her shop is pretty adorable and her items are beautifully made! Georgia creates reproductions of vintage clothes, using patterns 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's - she also does custom orders.

Here is her story...

Your shop is filled with such amazing beautiful items…where do you get your inspiration from?

I am inspired by the glamour of old movies and of stars like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.

I love sourcing vintage patterns and finding pictures of vintage clothing. One of my favourite things to do it to recreate a vintage dress.

Where or how did you learn your design skills?

I grew up in Wales with no TV but a very creative and wonderfully attentive mother. She taught me to sew at a very young age and passed on her love of fabrics and fashion also. I also had a super needlework teacher at school who taught me about pattern cutting and how to make what was in my head!

How did your fascination with vintage begin, and when did you decide you wanted to sell vintage designs?

I have always loved being a little bit different, I get that from my mum too! I love the fashions of the 60s and 70s but it was my youngest daughter Lara who gave me the idea to turn it into a business. We had a convention to go to one summer and she asked me to make her a 50s style dress. We decided that it would be more fun to use an original pattern and found a gorgeous on on the internet. It turned out beautifully and I started thinking of how different the sizing is to our shapes nowadays and how many people cannot fit into genuine vintage dresses. I also thought that although many women may love the styles some are a bit funny about wearing used clothing. So the idea for reproducing vintage style from original patterns was born. Our name came from a love of Shakespeare (12th Night) and needing something to sound right with 'vintage'.

What is your favorite thing about recreating vintage fashion?

I love that women can feel pretty and glamorous once more. So many styles now are short and unflattering and not very ladylike.

It is a way to keep the past alive.

Can we find you anywhere else (twitter, facebook, blogger?)?
