a vintage affair : a book review

I don't often talk about reading here on pretty little vintage, however books & reading are a huge passion of mine. With my new American Apparel job I take public transit so I have been reading a LOT lately. I know there are a lot of other readers out there so I thought it would be fun to share reviews of the books I read.

One of the last books I read was A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolff...

I was pretty excited to read this novel, I read good reviews - plus it has the word vintage in the title, so I knew it would be up my alley! This book was a great read, especially if you are a vintage lover. It touched a lot on vintage clothing, the main character, Pheobe,  owns a high-end vintage dress shop, but it went further than just chiffon...

While the vintage clothing aspect was really interesting, the novel really had a lot to say about friendship and forgiveness - not just forgiving others, but forgiving ourselves. There are two passionate stories of friendship in this novel, both which make one appreciate there own friendships and realize how everyone makes mistakes. There is also a little romance thrown in there for good measure!

A Vintage Affair was a great read, there are a few story lines that really keep you interested - I couldn't stop flipping pages! The stories were really moving, and even if you aren't a fan of vintage clothing it is still an excellent and intriguing novel.

Rating :

The next book I will be reviewing it Out: A Novel by Natsuo Kirino. This book is a total 180 from A Vintage Affair, highlighting murder, the power of friendship, loneliness and passion.

Let me know if you like the idea of book reviews! Or if you have a great book you could recommend I am looking for new novels to read.

I appreciate any input!

simple pleasures...

Normally I am pretty into chaos, jumbles of objects & a plethora of colors - but lately I have really been digging simplicity. In fact this blog is soon going under construction with a new simple look & a new name - but I am getting ahead of myself.

Today I wanted to share a lovely treasury I made titled Crisp. It is full of lovely items, that are perfect in there own simple way. Please click away at the images to be directed to the item, or check out the shopping list at the end of the post.

Enjoy!

Simple can be pretty refreshing huh?

new in shop...

Been trying to play around with photoshop (just got it, yeah!!). Turns out I don't really know what I am doing, I think I need to take some classes or something. Anyone have some easy to understand online tutorials for me??

Anyways, in addition to photoshop playing, I have finally gotten around to reopening Daisical and adding new items! I still have probably 100 or so more pieces to add, but at least I have begun the process. I wanted to share some fun new vintage blouses I just added (and also showcase my poor photoshop skills) - all purchased straight from California.

Pretty please take a peek at the newly stocked store here!

graffiti...

details:
sweater - anthropologie
dress - vintage
shoes - forever 21

This lovely graffiti wall, among a few other graffiti walls color the outside of my studio space. I love the bright bold colors & graphics, what great places for photos!

I am wearing a "new" vintage dress, which will be available for sale in the next week or so, it's quite lovely if I do say. Also I got an automatic shutter release button for my camera, which makes shooting outfits a WHOLE lot easier!

inspiration lately...

I'm on a bit of a blogging & etsy shop hiatus - waiting on photoshop... Once I get said photoshop, it's going to be a brand new full etsy shop & tons of creative blog posts!

In the meantime I am just filing inspirational ideas away for the future in my head, & also on pinterest (of course). So I thought I'd share some pretty things on my mind as of late...

There ya have it...
