d.i.y. valentine - featuring sarah of tulle & trinkets!

   Hello there! This is Sarah from Tulle and Trinkets. I am so excited to guest post on Brittany's lovely blog today!

I've been a sap for Valentine's Day for as long as I can remember. When I was little, picking out the kind of Valentines I was going to pass out to my class was a BIG DEAL. These days, I prefer to make handmade Valentines for the most special people in my life. There's something very kind about giving someone a one-of-a-kind, thoughtful Valentine. I'm going to share with you one of the easiest and most darling Valentines that I like to make!

 All you need to make this pretty little Valentine is felt, poster board or a stiff†card stock, embroidery floss, a heart to trace (I just print one from Microsoft Word), glue, scissors, a needle, and a pen.

First, trace around your heart on the felt.

Then cut out the heart.

Stitch a very simple border around one side of the heart perimeter. Don't worry -- I have little-to-no sewing talent -- just a simple stitch will do, and your stitching doesn't have to be perfect.

Stop when you get to the point of the heart, and make sure the thread ends on the opposite side that you started your stitching on. See how the end is on the front, and the beginning of where I started stitching is on the back? Leave a little tail that you can tie into a bow.

Now stitch on the other side of the heart, starting on the same side and ending on the same side. When you get to the point, thread the embroidery floss through the same spot you threaded the first side through (see photo above). Cut the thread leaving a second tail for the bow.

Tie the bow!

Now, using the same stencil, trace and cut a heart out of the poster board. Write a sweet little message on one side of the paper heart.

Glue the backs of the felt heart and the paper heart together (I like to use Modpodge.). The front of the heart should be on one side, and the note should be showing on the other side.

Voila! 

Now you have yourself a simple, yet sweet, DIY Valentine that your special someone will love to receive!

denver art museum...

Since the snowstorm heavily inhibited our ability to do anything outside, & since I had a visitor in town & couldn't hide in my apartment all day - we decided to head over to the Denver Art Museum. 

I had never been before, & it was pretty sweet. I snapped some photos....

Definitely will be checking the art museum again, especially since they have a YSL exhibit coming up!

holy snow...

It snowed like CRAZY today, & it's not supposed to stop anytime soon! I am staying in with some beer & homemade mac & cheese tonight!

life lately...

I haven't blogged this week, I don't know why.... Maybe I am just not in a creative blogging mood? Anyways in lieu of actually doing an outfit post or something that requires thought, I am sharing some instagrams from life lately...

As you can see I went snowboarding last weekend which was pretty amazing, Colorado is such a beautiful place! 

I promise to get back into the groove next week - but my sister is coming to visit me tomorrow so I will be busy doing fun things with her! I can't wait :)
